You don’t have to be a sports fan to enjoy the Super Bowl. In fact, hosting a Super Bowl party isn’t limited to years when your team made it to the big game. Heck, you don’t even have to enjoy the concept of football to host a good super bowl party. For those that prefer the halftime show over the main attraction, know that you are not alone. CBS Sports confirms that during Super Bowl XLIX, Katy Perry actually drew in more viewers (at 118.5 million) for her 30-minute halftime show than the game itself. Although I bet Tom Brady was none too pleased with that stat, it is the reality. Whatever your reason for wanting to gather friends and family and host a Super Bowl party that will be remembered, follow these guidelines to give your attendees a day of fun.

Why Host a Super Bowl Party?

Hosting a Super Bowl party takes more than just providing a functioning tv and a comfy couch. It is a day that friends will remember for months to come. It is an easy tradition to settle into where people look forward to your hospitality and your home. Many bonds can be formed over this 4-hour spectacle, and most turn it into a full day affair. Someone has to make the day magical for family and friends. With this round-up of ideas, it could even be you.

Preparing For Your Super Bowl Party

What goes into a great Super Bowl party? Our checklist includes 5 easy things to remember:

Friends and/ or family. Gather a group of family and friends that you think will add fun to the day. Most times in group settings, it is ideal to invite a common group of friends so that people are already known and at ease with another. This, of course isn’t necessary, and a Super Bowl party can be a great way to meet new people and forge new bonds.

Yummy Menu. You could do a potluck where everyone brings a dish to share and the host provides the main meal. You could decide on a “team” themed menu that centers dishes around the teams that are playing. (Think: Clam chowder in honor of the New England Patriots, or hot dishes for the Minnesota Vikings.)You could prepare a variety of appetizers and game-friendly servings. You could simply order pizzas to be shared. There are countless options when it comes to Super Bowl party food, and virtually no way to mess up in this area.

Cooking Utensils. No matter your menu, you will need kitchen utensils for every dip, soup, dish, tray, and appetizer imaginable. If your kitchen currently hosts a mismatched stock, now is as good as time as any to stock up. You can get all of your needs met with this great Best Choice Products Cooking Utensil Set from Amazon. Using Prime, you can even get it delivered in time for the big game.

Stock the bar. A mixology set that will serve up drinks to celebrate your teams’ successes or help you erase the pain from those missed field goals. Sure, you can have beer and wine on hand. But why not take your bar to the next level with this Best Choice Products Bartender Mixology Set. For more inspiration, head over to 40 great Game Day Drinks

Check Your Channels. Have you paid your cable bill? Do you get the channel? Is there an odd fuzzy line that runs horizontal on your tv screen and wreaks havoc on your brain while watching? If you are the person to step up and host a super bowl party, you should DEFINITELY do your due diligence and ensure your tv is in working order. Nothing would be worse than gathering for a game and then crowding around an iPhone to see the show. True Story: Once during a NYE party, we realized at the last minute that we didn’t know our channels. We settled on a Spanish speaking network to watch the ball drop. Cinco – Cautro – Tres – Dos – Uno – Feliz Ano Nuevo! But that is for a different post… Back to hosting a Super Bowl party.

Welcome to the Super Bowl Party

When the big game day rolls around, here are some practical yet fun tips to make the day run smoothly.

Kitchen Flow. Is this a thing? Yes, it most certainly is. When it comes to group gatherings, the kitchen is almost certainly the place with the most gravitational pull. In this case, there will likely be a group that mostly congregates in the kitchen and uses that room as their main hub for the party. Others will be coming and going to grab food during time-outs and down times of the game. The kitchen flow will set the vibe for the entire party. No joke. Plan for food that is easy to grab, and also EASY TO EAT. Think I’m joking? How do you feel about scraping dried spaghetti noodles off of your living room carpet the morning after the Super Bowl. I love me some pasta, but let’s be honest, it isn’t an easy-to-eat-in-front-of-the-tv choice.

Quality Kitchen Products. For a reliable yet affordable way to fully stock your cooking utensils, Best Choice Products has you covered. This stainless steel set comes with 23 items that are durable and usable. There is a wide variety of utensils included, which means it can serve up all of your hosting needs. This is something you could get for yourself to be ready for the Super Bowl party, or even a gift to bring to the host. All items in this set are dishwasher safe and heat resistant.

Team colors or just plain football. If you are an avid fan and your team is challenging for the gold ring, bust out those team colors! From colored plates, to team colored streamers, add a little flair to your day. If you don’t have a favorite team you are supporting, you could decorate for both teams OR simply go football. Amazon has great choices for everything from napkins to plates, cups to tablecloths. Easily accessorize with paper football straws, cupcake toppers, or a football field table runner.

Family Friendly Football Game – No Tackling Involved. I love the idea of a friendly wager to help peak interest in the game. Tell your guests to bring cash in advance, and check out this fun idea for Football Squares. I had never heard of it either, but how fun!

Super Bowl Party Menu

Raise your hand if you think the best part of a super bowl party is the food. ME TOO. I am excited to say that I have rounded up some of the best game day food ideas, and can’t wait to share them with you. Feel free to comment on this post if you have more yummy ideas you would like to share.

Stadium food. I’ve yet to meet a person that doesn’t enjoy a good day of stadium food. For an easy menu including stadium food, serve hot dogs, burgers, nachos, peanuts, and popcorn. For a twist on stadium food, try any of the following recipes. Or for something unique and delicious, doesn’t a tailgating waffle bar sound like the PERFECT way to spend your day?

A counter full of appetizers. There is just something fun about tiny foods that appear snackable and grabbable. At our house, we appreciate a good appetizer, and always look for an excuse to try new apps. No one will go home hungry with choices that include

Dietary friendly, restrictive, and healthy options. Game day food doesn’t need to equal high caloric dips and heavy entres. If you know your guests follow restrictive diets, be aware and be kind. There are thousands of mouth watering choices to turn to that are both healthy and yummy. Check out a few ideas below.

Drink, please. I have fallen in love with this 16–piece stainless steel bar set. It comes with an ice bucket, shaker, strainer, corkscrew and more. This set allows you to be the ultimate bar tender and impress your guests with homemade concoctions. For a recipe that is sure to please, try this Touchdown Cocktail with free printable.

Hosting a Kid-Friendly Super Bowl Party

The Super Bowl is a family event. Although some kids might be interested in watching the full game, others will likely wander. And that’s ok. Set up options for children of all ages so that parents can enjoy themselves and feel like they are doing more than chasing their children.

Facepaint stations. You could set up a face painting station before the game where the kiddos could select a heart or star in their teams’ colors. To make it even easier, grab some of these cute football tattoos.

Calling all cheerleaders. Get the kiddos ready to cheer by making your own pom poms.

Coloring sheets. An easy go-to idea to keep little ones entertained are coloring sheets. There are many free options for printable coloring sheets and you can even find stickers to enhance their art work.

Football Guys. For the kids who are sports nuts, Kaskey Kids has come out with a great option in their Football Guys. We have had several of these sets at our house. They are durable, long lasting, and provide hours of fun.

Just toys. If you have children yourself, your house is already swimming with #allthetoys. Leave it at that. Let kids play. One word of caution: Depending on the ages of your children, and the children that will be coming to your house, think about putting special and/ or breakable toys away for the day. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, think about the 800 piece lego set your son got for Christmas and how he might feel about it being broken by an unknowing toddler.

Did You Know?

Here is something you may not have already known. In addition to their inflated salaries, NFL players whose teams play in the Super Bowl pick up some serious pocket change for their efforts. Each player on the winning team receives a payment of $97,000, while their opponents receive 49,000 for their playing on the losing team.

Despite the fact that some Super Bowls come down to the last play of the game to determine a winner, there has never been a Super Bowl that has gone into overtime. Who knows, maybe 2018 is the year and Super Bowl 52 is the place. Stay tuned.

Americans will consume 1.25 billion chicken wings and drink an average of 325.5 million gallons of beer on Super Bowl Sunday.

Have you noticed how much a Super Bowl ring sparkles? Well, it should. It is valued at around $5,000 for just one ring.

Tiffany & Co. does more than make jewels to fit in those tiny blue boxes. They are also the makers of the Super Bowl trophy. This 7-pound, 21-inch trophy is worth about $25,000.

Raise your hand if you watch the super bowl for the ads alone. You aren’t alone. If you work for a company that would be interested in getting a slot in one of the super bowl ads, no problem. Just be ready to shell out the required 4.5 million dollars to secure a 30-second time slot.

Everyone understands the need for back-up clothing and a few extras when you go on a special trip. To those players that are invited to the Super Bowl, they will be using one of the 72 footballs that are reserved for Super Bowl use. Wow. 72 footballs for a 4-hour time frame sounds like every child’s name.
