In the past, installing a pool was the Holy Grail of home improvement. The idea of sitting in the yard and chilling by the water was something everyone aspired to. Fast forward a couple of years and the tide has changed. Today, the majority of homeowners will say things like “it’s too expensive” or “it’s dangerous.” In a strange twist of fate, pools have gone out of fashion.

But, do they deserve the bad rep? Are they a terrible idea?

The answer is it depends on your circumstances. However, here are four times when a pool is a fantastic choice.

The Cost Is Affordable

There’s no point beating about the bush and saying pools are cheap. An in-ground number will cost around $30,000 for a basic model. House Logic points out the number can rise to $100,000 with add-ons and extras. Wow, that’s a lot of money. Still, some suppliers will have sales and promotions which make a pool more affordable than before. Keep an eye on the likes of Designer Pools and Pool Direct for excellent deals. When the price is lower than normal, this is when an investment makes sense as it will add value to the property even if it’s only a small amount.

The Joneses Are Doing It

Keeping up with the Joneses is a mistake. You never know when they are faking it or living the lifestyle. Plus, it’s not worth getting into debt to keep up appearances. The best thing to do is let them be themselves and not follow suit. Well, that is unless they have a pool and so does the rest of the neighborhood. You might not want to sell now, but that can change in the future. If it does, the house won’t compare as it will lack an essential feature. A pool will help your listing to compete with the others.

Safety Is In Mind

Yes, pools are dangerous for adults and children. All it takes is one slip and fall and there is the potential for an accident. Kids are hard to watch as it is and the house is a precarious place without involving a pool. It’s best not to install one and have peace of mind than worry 24/7. Or, you can buy modern safety features and close-off the area when there isn’t an adult around. Fences today are high and sturdy so people can’t wander into the water by accident. Door locks are available too.

You’re Lazy

At first glance, this doesn’t sound like a positive. After all, being lazy means the pool will get dirty and it will look a mess. The good news is that a company such as Pool Scouts will gladly take on the cleaning responsibilities. You can do it if you like, yet there is no point when you consider the cost of your time and money. In comparison to a weekly service, there is hardly any difference in price. So, you can own a pool without maintaining it and still enjoy the benefits.
