Mojitos & Munchkins Gives Back

Dear World, Thanks to a recent post by Eventbrite, I’m left reflecting on how I choose to give back and better this universe I live in. Charitable donations have always been held close to my heart, and as a family, we have chosen companies and organizations that we dedicate a portion of our finances to each year. When it comes to making donations, it easily feels like there are thousands of people, families, groups, organizations, and companies that are in need of our contributions. Every day as I scroll through my Facebook feed, there is tragedy, trauma and unmistakable pain. My...

The Newest Mammarazi on the Block

Dear Mojitos & Munchkins family, It is no secret that I like love strongly adore photographing my children. Where they see me, they see a mom fanatically taking photos. My mammarazi’ing has taken on different phases throughout my years. Pre-children, I could be seen proudly carrying around my Digital SLR camera, properly worn around my neck while shooting, and just-as-properly put away in its’ traveling case when I wasn’t. Child #1 came around, and I continued to document every big (and small) milestone, but eventually gave up on “properly” wearing the neck strap. After all, kids move so damn fast that...

Mojitos & Munchkins Published on Scary Mommy

Some of you may remember that I had a recent article posted on Scary Mommy. It all happened so quickly, and my writing on this particular day so charged and full of emotion, that I didn’t get a chance to archive it on my little ol’ blog. So here it is… An Open Letter From a Teacher To Her Students: You Are Loved I am proud of this piece. Both as an educator and, more importantly, as a human being. To my immigrant and refugee students, I am a better educator because I have worked with you. You have taught me...

Dear Sunday Morning…

Once a year, I wake up as a mid-30’s, mom of three who is well rested and surrounded by absolute silence. I am covered by the sheets of a king-sized bed that I have all to myself, I can roll over and flip through non-cartooned channels for as long as I want, someone else makes me breakfast… And cleans up after me. Once a year, I take a “mental business trip” to restore my sanity, stock up on alone time, and pee in private. This tradition started off on a horribly sad and tragic note, as I began setting aside this ME DAY...

Five Minute Friday:: Middle

I have teamed up with a wonderful team of bloggers who participate in “Five Minute Friday.” Here’s the skinny: Every Friday for nearly four years hundreds of people joined a kind of writing flash mob. We write for five minutes flat. All on the same prompt that is posted by the the team starting at 10pm EST on Thursday night and all through Friday. And we connect on Twitter with the hashtag #FMFParty (It stands for Five Minute Friday Party). No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real. The prompt for this week: MIDDLE  – – – – –...

Published on Scary Mommy?? PINCH ME!!

As the calendar turned to 2017, I sat down and wrote out a few blogging goals for the new year. My blog started out as a hobby, an outlet that allowed me to write my feelings and stories out, and proved thearapeutic. I never saw it as anything more than that. Recently, I’ve taken some risks and put myself “out there” in the blogging world. That vulnerability has been well received and I have appreciated every second of it. I feel like I’m finding a niche that I’m passionate about, and thus far enjoying the journey. As I wrote out...

Can We Stop With Evening Activities Already??

Dear World, Can we all just agree that evening activities are AWFUL? I get it, my kid likes basketball…. I get it, my kid is good at gymnastics. I get it… Being on a team shapes a person and builds skills that they otherwise wouldn’t have. Yadda, yadda, yadda. I still think it’s RIDICULOUS that we spend our nights carting kids around, doing kid swaps if you’re lucky enough to not fly solo, high-fiving family members court side while grabbing half your team to shuttle to the next destination, stuffing our faces with what we try to pass as “dinner” so...

Dear Kids, On This Election Day…

To my three beautiful children, Today is the day. After weeks of slander from both parties, this yuck-filled election season that has spewed hatred and divided friendships and families comes to a close. Less junk mail will fill our mailbox. The knocks on our door where Mommy has to go out and answer questions and defend her believes will cease. Endless debates will hopefully give way to talk of activities and get-togethers and happiness. No matter the outcome that is announced tonight, today is the start of a new presidency, a fresh heart and mind in the white house, and...

An Open Letter to the Mom Who Invites My Son {With Anxiety} To A Birthday Party…

Dear “Birthday Child’s Grown-Up,” First and foremost, thank you for inviting my son to your child’s birthday party. When an envelope arrives in the mail addressed to my son, I know it could only mean one thing. He is too young to receive his own bills and too “new to the this world” to be inundated with junk mail. Although I know that someone is inviting my son to a birthday party, my son is filled with curiosity and wonder each and every time. As the corner of the envelope peels back to reveal a Pokemon character, or the postcard...

Dear Fall,

Dear Fall, As a teacher, you are always met with such a mix of emotions. You make me say goodbye to a summer of blessed opportunity to spend time with my three kiddos. You are a new beginning, a fresh start, and a reunion of family that I have missed over the past few months. You smell sweet, you feel breezy, you clothe us with warm sweaters and tall boots, you taste like pumpkin spice lattes and warmed hot chocolate, you look brown and earthy yet beautiful and majestic. How can one season come with such a mix of emotions?...
